Theo Maledon Release

Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Skyforce announced the team has acquired guard Theo Maledon via waivers. The team has also waived Peter Jok to complete the transaction.

Maledon, a 6-4 175-pound guard out of France was drafted with the 34th overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers and traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder on draft night.

Prior to his NBA career, he averaged 17.3 points on 42.1 percent shooting, 1.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 0.5 steals per 46 games (23 starts) for ASVEL Basket in France of the EuroLeague and Jeep Elite.

As a rookie in 2020-21, he averaged an NBA career-high 10.1 points on 36.8 percent shooting, 3.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 0.9 steals per 27.4 minutes a game in 65 appearances (49 starts). He followed that up with 7.1 points on 37.5 percent shooting, 2.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 0.6 steals per 17.8 minutes in 51 games (seven starts) for the Thunder. He would be assigned to the Oklahoma City Blue for 14 games in 2021-22 and averaged 16.1 points on 45.4 percent shooting, 5.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.1 steals per 31.9 minutes a game. 

On 9/30/22 he was acquired by the Houston Rockets in a multi-player trade and was later waived. He signed a two-way contract with the Charlotte Hornets on 10/15/22 and split the season between them and the Greensboro Swarm. For Charlotte, he averaged 6.7 points on 40.2 percent shooting, 2.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 0.8 steals per 19.4 minutes a game in 44 appearances (seven starts). He appeared in 23 games for the Swarm and averaged 17.7 points on 48.5 percent shooting, 5.9 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.4 steals per 32.2 minutes a game.

Maledon spent part of the 2023-24 season with the Hornets before being waived on 12/14/23. He inked a two-way deal with the Phoenix Suns on 12/17/23 and between the two teams averaged 3.5 points, 1.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 0.4 steals per 17 games (one start).

He is expected to be available for Tuesday’s home game against the Mexico City Capitanes, with tip-off slated for 6:30 PM CST at the Sanford Pentagon.
