SKYFORCE REACQUIRES JAVONTE SMART

Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Skyforce announced today that the team has reacquired Javonte Smart. He returns to Sioux Falls following a stint as a two-way player for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Smart, a 6-4, 205-pound guard out of LSU went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft. He signed with the Miami HEAT on 9/10/21 after playing with the organization in the 2021 NBA Summer League. He joined the Skyforce as an affiliate player following HEAT training camp and preseason. Smart then earned a two-way contract with the Bucks on 11/30/21.

He appeared in 13 games (one start) for the Bucks this season, averaging 2.4 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 12.3 minutes per game. Smart previously started the first five games of the 2021-22 G League Showcase Cup for Sioux Falls, averaging a team-high 22 points on 48.7 percent shooting, 4.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.2 steals

Before his professional career, Smart spent three seasons at LSU, and averaged 13 points on 41.4 percent shooting, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.2 steals in 93 games (76 starts). He was named to the 2021 Second Team All-SEC Team before entering the NBA Draft.

Sam Thompson was waived to complete the transaction.

Smart, who will wear #1, is expected to be available for the team’s upcoming home series against the Memphis Hustle today (Sunday). Tip-off is slated for 3:00 PM CST from the Sanford Pentagon.
