Showtime Returns to Sioux Falls

Keshad Johnson first arrived in Sioux Falls during the 2024-25 season as an undrafted rookie beginning his professional career.

He returns for 2026-27 as an NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion with 48 NBA regular-season appearances and a history of making the most of his opportunities with the Skyforce.

Johnson signed a two-way contract with the Miami HEAT on August 27, 2026, bringing “Showtime” back to Sioux Falls for his third season in the organization.

Before reaching the professional level, Johnson spent four seasons at San Diego State and helped the Aztecs reach the 2023 NCAA national championship game. He completed his college career at Arizona, where he averaged 11.5 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting 53 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from three-point range. Johnson earned Pac-12 All-Defensive Team honorable mention and helped Arizona finish atop the Pac-12 regular-season standings in 2024. He also became the first person in his family to graduate from college.

After going undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft, Johnson signed his first two-way contract with Miami on July 1, 2024. He helped the HEAT capture the 2024 NBA Summer League championship before beginning his professional career with Sioux Falls.

It did not take long for “Showtime” to introduce himself. Johnson combined for 46 points and 15 rebounds across his first two professional games and scored at least 16 points in each of his first eight appearances, including six 20-point performances.

That opening stretch was highlighted by 34 points on 13-17 shooting from the field and 4-5 from beyond the arc against the Indiana Mad Ants on November 23, 2024. He added seven rebounds, two steals and a +33 plus/minus in the Skyforce victory.

In 13 Tip-Off Tournament appearances, Johnson averaged 21.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 steals. He shot 54.9 percent from the field and 39.6 percent from three-point range as Sioux Falls compiled a 10-3 record with him in the lineup.

His breakout continued during a two-game sweep of the Motor City Cruise. Johnson averaged 30.0 points on 77.8 percent shooting and 8.0 rebounds to earn NBA G League Player of the Week honors for games played from November 25 through December 1, 2024.

Johnson made his NBA debut against the Boston Celtics on December 2, 2024, before returning to help Sioux Falls complete its Tip-Off Tournament run. The Skyforce advanced to the championship game at the NBA G League Winter Showcase, where it fell 125-119 to the Westchester Knicks.

On December 26, 2024, Miami converted his two-way contract into a standard NBA deal.

Earning a standard contract did not end Johnson’s time with the Skyforce. He continued receiving assignments throughout the regular season and averaged 15.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.3 steals in 19 games.

Johnson recorded five double-doubles, with his best performance coming against the Iowa Wolves on March 16, 2025. He finished with 29 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

At the NBA level, Johnson appeared in 16 games for Miami during his rookie season, averaging 2.7 points and 1.8 rebounds while shooting 69.2 percent from the field. He closed the regular season with his best performance, recording 17 points on 7-9 shooting, eight rebounds and two steals against the Washington Wizards on April 13, 2025.

Johnson remained on Miami’s standard roster throughout the 2025-26 season and appeared in 32 games for the HEAT. He averaged 4.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in 8.7 minutes while shooting 49 percent from the field.

He scored in double figures four times and recorded the first double-double of his NBA career against the Chicago Bulls on November 21, 2025, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

His eight regular-season appearances with Sioux Falls offered another look at how his game had developed. Johnson started every appearance and averaged 17.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.9 blocks and 1.5 steals while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from three-point range.

He reached double figures in all eight games, grabbed at least 10 rebounds four times and connected on multiple three-pointers in seven appearances. His return was highlighted by 27 points on 11-16 shooting in a January 3, 2026, victory over Iowa.

Johnson’s second NBA season also brought the biggest individual accomplishment of his professional career. He was selected to compete in the 2026 NBA Slam Dunk Contest during NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles.

The Oakland native brought out Bay Area rapper E-40 for his opening dunk and received a score of 47.4, which led all four competitors after their first attempts.

Johnson advanced to the final round against San Antonio Spurs forward Carter Bryant and received scores of 49.6 and 47.8 on his last two dunks to capture the title.

With the victory, Johnson became the third HEAT player to win the event, joining Harold Miner and Derrick Jones Jr. He also became the second player with Skyforce experience to do so, joining Jones.

Johnson returns to Sioux Falls for 2026-27 with more experience and a more complete game than he had when he first joined the Skyforce two seasons ago.

The first act launched his NBA career. Now, “Showtime” is back for the encore.
