One Minute with Sam Thompson

Sam Thompson was signed by the Skyforce on December 29, 2022 and made his return to Sioux Falls. Thompson played for Sioux Falls in the 2021-2022 season where he appeared in 29 games (six starts) and averaged 9.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. 

The forward out of Ohio State is having an impact for the Force off the bench this season where he is averaging 6.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. Most recently in Tuesday’s matchup against the Austin Spurs, Thompson notched double figures with 10 points, and added 4 rebounds and 3 assists. He also had a team high +/- of +26 and iced the game with four clutch free throws to secure the win. 

We sat down with the Chicago, Illinois native to learn more about who Slammin’ Sam is off the court. 

Who is your biggest role model? Either one of my parents. I look up to them in every way - their professionalism, who they are as people, their character, their marriage, everything. 

What is your secret talent nobody knows about? I’m not bad with languages. No crazy secret talent, though. 

If you weren’t playing basketball, what would you be doing? If I wasn’t playing basketball, I’d be in banking. 

What are your favorite shoes? Jordan 1s. 

Do you play video games? I’m not a big video game guy. 

What is your favorite music? Rap music. Jay-Z is my favorite artist. 

Favorite sport other than basketball? Football and soccer. I’m a Chicago Bears fan and of course, I love THE Ohio State. 

What is your favorite food? Italian food is my favorite cuisine but I love soul food. 

What is your favorite thing about Sioux Falls? The Sioux Falls Skyforce.

Who is your NBA goat? C’mon. It’s Michael Jordan. 

Who is your favorite player in the NBA? All my favorite players are friends or people I’ve played with. I also am a big fan of LeBron. 

Who is your favorite teammate?  I love all my guys equally.
