The Sioux Falls Skyforce comes into the contest this morning 1.5 games back of the Motor City Cruise for a spot in the Showcase Cup tournament portion at the Winter Showcase starting next weekend in Orlando.
Sioux Falls has won four of its last six games and a two-game road winning streak at steak. After a little under a week break, the Force returns after handling the Grand Rapids Gold 123-112 last Wednesday from the Sanford Pentagon, as HEAT two-way player Cole Swider led the way with 31 points on 11-21 FGA and five rebounds.
Drew Peterson added 25 points on 10-15 FGA, nine rebounds and four assists, while Justin Champagnie netted 20 points and 15 rebounds. Malik Williams and Manny Camper combined for 26 points off the bench.
A victory today would mark back-to-back season series sweeps of the Cruise for the Skyforce, as Alondes Williams led a group of seven active players to a 145-127 victory on Nov. 28 in the team's previous match-up. Sioux Falls shot 57.9% from the field and a season-high 63% from deep, with four players going for career highs in points scored. Detroit Pistons two-way player Stanley Umude led Motor City with 28 points on 10-19 FGA.
If Sioux Falls is able to hold on today, they will move just a half-game back of Motor City for a final Showcase Cup spot, which would mark a first appearance in franchise history.
Both teams wrap the Showcase Cup portion of their season up against the Windy City Bulls, with the Skyforce traveling there Friday, and the Cruise on Sunday, before both teams head to the Winter Showcase.
