SKYFORCE ACQUIRE RETURNING PLAYER RIGHTS TO RODNEY PURVIS

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sioux Falls Skyforce announced today that the team has acquired the returning player rights to guard Rodney Purvis from the Lakeland Magic in exchange for the returning player rights to forward Erik McCree.

Purvis, a 6-4, 205-pound guard out of Connecticut signed with the Orlando Magic after going undrafted in the 2017 NBA Draft. Purvis was allocated to the Magic’s NBA G League affiliate, the Lakeland Magic, where he spent much of the 2017-18 season. Appearing in 39 games (39 starts) for Lakeland, Purvis averaged 20.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.4 steals in 38.0 minutes per game. Purvis earned NBA G League Performer of the Week honors on December 26, 2017 and was named to the All-NBA G League All-Rookie First Team at the end of the season.

Purvis took a brief leave from the Lakeland Magic to participate in the Americas World Cup Qualifying games for Team USA, where he appeared in two games and averaged 13.0 points per game.

The Orlando Magic signed Purvis to back-to-back 10-day contracts beginning on March 8, 2018 before ultimately signing him for the remainder of the season. While with the NBA club, Purvis appeared in 16 games (two starts) and averaged 6.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. On March 22, 2018 Purvis scored an NBA career-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting in an Orlando loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Prior to his professional career, Purvis spent one year at North Carolina State before transferring to the University of Connecticut for his final three seasons. In total, Purvis appeared in 137 collegiate games (100 starts) and averaged career numbers of 11.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. In his final year at UCONN, he averaged a career-high 13.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game across 33 contests.

Erik McCree appeared in 13 games (eight starts) for the Skyforce during the 2017-18 season prior to his NBA Call-Up to the Utah Jazz. During his time in Sioux Falls, he averaged 16.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
