USA Basketball Announces Men’s AmeriCup Training Camp Roster

USA Basketball announced yesterday 16 players with NBA, NBA G League, and international experience who will be participating in the USA Men’s AmeriCup Team Training Camp.

The training camp roster features three Sioux Falls alumni, including current Skyforce guard Larry Drew II, Reggie Williams, and assistant coach Mo McHone, who was inducted into the inaugural Skyforce Hall of Fame in 2016. Skyforce team doctor, Stephen Foley, of Sanford Health in Sioux Falls has also been selected as the team’s primary physician.

Additionally, Skyforce General Manager and Miami HEAT Assistant GM Adam Simon was placed on the USA Basketball Selection Committee, a group charged with selecting players to participate in the USA Men’s AmeriCup qualifying events.

According to the press release, “the training camp, which will be used to select the national team that will represent the United States at the FIBA AmeriCup 2017, will be August 17-24 at the University of Houston. The Official, 12-member USA team is expected to be announced prior to the team’s August 24 departure.”

The USA Men’s AmeriCup coaching staff includes former NBA head coach Jeff Van Gundy, current NBA G League head coach Ty Ellis of the Northern Arizona Suns, as well as veteran international coach Mo McHone.

The United States will open its AmeriCup Group C preliminary play on August 28 as they face off against Panama at 10:00 AM ET. They then meet Uruguay on August 29 at 12:30 PM ET, and conclude preliminary play on August 30 against the Dominican Republic at 10:00 AM ET.
