Current Skyforce head coach Nevada Smith coached 76ers standout Robert Covington during the 2013-14 season when both were with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA D-League.

Covington appeared in 42 games (41 starts) for the Vipers under Smith’s guidance, averaging 23.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.4 steals, 1.7 assists and 1.3 blocks per game.

Covington played his college basketball at Tennessee State, where he was teammates with current Skyforce guard Patrick Miller, who led Sioux Falls in scoring over the last half of the 2016-17 regular season.
