With a victory over the Austin Spurs last night, the Oklahoma City Blue clinched the Midwest Division title and the #3 seed in the 2018 NBA G League Playoffs. Nevertheless, there remains a glimmer of hope for the Skyforce heading into the final two games of the regular season: a back-to-back set against the Northern Arizona Suns in Prescott Valley, AZ.
Sioux Falls needs to win both games to give themselves a chance, but will need a little help along the way. The Reno Bighorns sit two games above the Skyforce, currently as the #6 seed and holding the final playoff spot. If the Bighorns lose their final two games against the Salt Lake City Stars and the Santa Cruz Warriors, the Skyforce could tie their overall record of 27-23. This would send the teams into a tie-breaker scenario in which Sioux Falls as the better head-to-head record, and would steal the last playoff spot on the final day of the season.
The Skyforce are coming into tonight’s game with a three-game losing streak, but so are the Northern Arizona Suns. To say it would take a miracle to make the playoffs is a stretch, as crazier things have happened in the ever-changing landscape of the NBA G League. Things would have to fall into place perfectly, Reno would need to have an end-of-season collapse, but there’s still a legitimate chance that the Skyforce continue play into this year’s post season competition.
